We all know that global warming is seriously affecting us, especially in the summer. This is how it works: Global warming gasses (CO2, CO, Methane, etc.) act as a blanket over the earth. They allow the sun's rays to reach the ground, producing heat, but when they bounce off back toward space, these gasses reflect, or bounce light back to earth again. This makes the earth like an increasingly warmer oven. Heat coming in can't get out. Just like your home in the winter when the heat it on full! This 'blanket' is especially bad on smog days, where the particles in the atmosphere make a noticeably bigger blanket, thus insulating and making days unbearably hot. All these global warming gasses can come from the burning of fossil fuel and methane emissions (burps and ahem, farts). So if you cut back on energy use, or car use on some days, you will not be contributing to the bad conditions created by this blanket.
